‘‘Preserving Nature is Preserving us''-Meet the young One Health advocator Bamlak Kassahun

‘‘Preserving Nature is Preserving us''

I’m Bamlak kassahun a candidate Doctor at Addis Ababa University. I’m also one of the co-founder of ‘Beyond Student for Change Initiative’, Ethio-virologist team and one health advocator.

It has been long time while I just fall in love with nature. All the artistic and incredible design of nature makes me more fascinated. And for those wise individual who consider it deeply it is a supernatural art. It is the art which is handed by every one of us starting from smallest part of our body called cell to the giant galaxies.  Remarkably after I joined natural science in my preparatory class I have especial attention to biology and chemistry since they are a good discipline of nature. I have deep concern and questions on nature that is the one which makes me more enhanced and interested on one health.

Now in this time I'm working on one health. Behind that I’m the founder and coordinator of Ethio-virologist team. Working on virology and one health it was my childhood ambition and I’m opening the door of this discipline towards to my country Ethiopia.

According to WHO statement, it takes one health as an approach rather than as a discipline. Roughly it define as: ''One Health is an approach to designing and implementing program, policies, legislation and research in which multiplies sector communicating and work together to achieve better public health outcomes.'' As an advocator I disagree completely in the statement of WHO’s towards to one health. The point of my disagreement is in the word ''approach''. Since it completely kill the potential of One Health that it can bring to our planet. It should have to be seen as a discipline. This can allow the practical thought of one health to be at hand.

I have a philosophy called ‘‘Preserving Nature is Preserving us''. Nature can truly handle when our universe try to exercise by one health discipline. Mankind always explore many new innovations without considering Natural bond.

Finally, advancing one health in our world is the most critical work to save our world from coming up pandemics. Unprotected interaction with our animals and environment may cause a hard disaster and affect nature negatively.
